Frequently Asked Questions about Slack

Can I get notifications DMed to me?

While direct notifications aren't available directly within RevOps, there is a simple way to forward email notifications (which you can control) to you directly in Slack.

To do this, you will need to:

  1. Set up a forwarding Slack channel
  2. Create an email address for the channel
  3. Add the email as a forwarding email
  4. Create an email filter for the notifications to forward
  5. Celebrate!

1. Set up a Slack channel

This step is pretty self explanatory. Slack provides great documentation on how to setup a new channel. You can also use your personal Slack channel.

2. Create an email address for the channel

Slack allows you to send emails to any channel. To do this, you need to create an email address for the channel.

3. Add the email as a forwarding email

Now we move on to configuring your email provider to forward your email notifications to your Slack channel. Gmail has clear documentation for turning on automatic forwarding.

4. Create an email filter for the notifications to forward

Finally, if supported, create a filter that will forward the specific emails you're interested in receiving in Slack. If you're using Gmail, they provide clear documentation for create this kind of filter.

When you get to the step for search criteria, you should filter the From address using the email, "dealdesk@revops.io". Using only this, you will get all email notifications forwarded to Slack.

You can be more selective by filtering the Subject field. For example, if you want to get notified when a customer views a deal, search for a Subject that includes "was viewed by". Save your filter.

5. Celebrate! 🎉

After saving your filter to forward the selected emails to your Slack channel, you will start to get direct Slack notifications!
